Man Utd Transfer News: PSG Set To Rival Reds For Cristiano Ronaldo

Sun. The cash-rich Ligue 1 club have reportedly stolen a march on the Premier League champions in the race for the Real Madrid ace by contacting the Spanish giants with a "substantial offer" for the former Old Trafford favourite. That has prompted an immediate response from United, who have now contacted Ronaldo's agent to reiterate their interest in re-signing the star. Last month, the Red Devils reportedly held high level talks with sponsors Nike to put a package together to land the Portuguese superstar. United are willing to offer £65 million plus a player - most likely Nani - as they bid to bring Ronaldo back to the Theatre of Dreams four years after selling him to Madrid for a world record £80 million. A United source said of PSG's latest move:

€œUnited are not happy now PSG have made their move with a substantial offer. €œThey will not give up, however, and have told Ronaldo€™s agent of their intent.€
However, reports suggest Qatari-backed PSG have offered Real £80 million for the star, meaning the Spanish giants would be recouping the mega fee they splashed out on Ronaldo back in 2009. They would also be prepared to top any wage United offer, with the Reds willing to make him joint-top earner alongside Wayne Rooney on £250,000-per-week. Ronaldo has so far refused to sign a new contract at the Bernabeu and with two years remaining on his current deal has hinted he is prepared to allow it to run down then leave for nothing. That could persuade Real into doing business as his market value will depreciate with every season he stays in the Spanish capital.
