On the same day that Louis Van Gaal is unveiled as Manchester United's new manager after guiding his Dutch side to the semi-finals of the World Cup, Manchester United fans will be disappointed to learn that German star Toni Kroos has defied their club's apparently long-standing interest in him to sign for Real Madrid. The news is not unexpected, as Kroos took a moment out of his World Cup celebration to announce that his next dream step would be to move to Madrid, but it will nonetheless come with frustration that the deal has now been confirmed, particularly as the fee is just £24m - £3m less than United forked out for Belgian misfit Marouane Fellaini last year... https://twitter.com/Mark__Bright/status/489703366709497856 As Mark Bright rightly points out, Kroos' deal is an exceptional one for Madrid, who have sanctioned Sami Khedira's move to Arsenal for £20m in the past day or so. He is one of Europe's best midfield talents, and he will boost Carlo Ancelotti's attacking options considerably, with Madrid fans now facing the exciting prospect of seeing Kroos, Ronaldo and Bale all together behind a central striker. https://twitter.com/rioferdy5/status/489402398369406976 Though United have been credited with strong interest in Kroos since David Moyes was still in charge of the club, no move was forthcoming, and rumour has it that Van Gaal wasn't as invested in the possibility of signing him as his predecessor. So it seems Kroos didn't snub United, as there was no decision to make. Do you think United should have tried to sign Toni Kroos? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
