undoubtedly the best midfielder of his generation, by none other than Zinedine Zidane, and whilst his last season may not have been his best, he has undoubtedly been an integral cog in the United winning machine that has gone on to dominate the Premier League for the last 20 years. And now the unenviable task of replacing Uniteds number 22 will fall to David Moyes, and whilst no player will ever truly replace Scholes, here, in no particular order are ten players that could come very close to doing so for the Red Devils.
10. Marouane Fellaini
Fellaini is a player that has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since the beginning of last season, and given the fact that the manager that brought him to England 5 years ago has made the move to Manchester, it is looking increasingly likely that the Belgian will follow him as continues his pursuit of Champions League football. Strong in the air and a tough tackler, Fellaini could become the midfield enforcer that United have been lacking ever since Roy Keane left the club, and whilst he may be an altogether different kind of player than Scholes was, he can bring the same kind of tenacity and composure that were mainstays of his game. The Belgian enjoyed his best season goal-wise last term, finding the net 12 times for Everton, and those goals would certainly be welcomed with gusto by the Old Trafford faithful.
