Currently a key target for both Manchester City and Chelsea, Alex Sandro looks destined to be a Premier League player by summer's end, but the Brazilian full back could be swayed by Manchester United after the club failed to land his signature just over a year ago.

Juventus were demanding £40million for 26-year-old then, and now look to have increased that asking price by a few more million as demand heightens for his continental defensive attributes.

Sandro would certainly bring extra quality to United's back line, with Luke Shaw possibly linked with a move away from Old Trafford as part of a deal to bring Danny Rose to the club (more on that later).

Pep Guardiola should be desperate to make Sandro a City player if only to plug the leaks in his squad left by the impending departures of Gael Clichy, Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna.

Conversely, a distinct lack of depth could be a recurring problem for Mourinho this season, who made little secret of his disinterest in a strong league finish as the club successfully chased Europa League glory for entry into the Champions League. Such indifference will not be an option now, with heightened expectations of a return to the top four for the 'Special One's sophomore season.
