Man Utd Transfers: 3 Deals United Should Finalise Today
What deals should Sir Alex oversee in the final hours of this transfer window?
1. Leighton Baines IN
Everton's Baines has been linked with a move to United for most of the summer, and at various times the deal has looked close to completion, but in the past few days news of the deal has cooled and it seems Sir Alex is set to miss out on one of his reported top targets. But United should at least try again to force through a deal before the window closes, as they would be getting a player with a range of strengths, from set-piece delivery to attacking prowess, and he could well be another piece in the jigsaw to catching up with and over-taking city rivals Man City. At times this summer Baines has been linked with a move of anywhere between £10m and £15m, which would represent a shrewd deal for United, especially with the prospect of his supplying crosses into the box for new signing Robin Van Persie. Unfortunately for Sir Alex, Everton Assistant Manager Steve Round has said in the past few days that Baines will not be making a move this summer, and that the player remains committed to the club despite reported interest from United:"His heart is here definitely, he is a local boy. He loves the club, loves his team-mates and loves to go out there to play and perform. "He has never mooted anything else. Fortunately we have not had any bids. Leighton is here so long may it continue. "Leighton is a top player, arguably the best or one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and Europe. I think he has shown that on a regular basis over the past two or three seasons. "He is consistent and his assist making is always in the top 10 of the Premier League and for a left-back that is very impressive."But, stranger things have happened, and United would do well to invest in a player of Baines' quality.
