The Croatian winger has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford for most of the summer, but the club has until now been unable to agree a transfer fee with Inter.

The Italians are now thought to have settled on a fee in the region of £50m for the 28-year-old, who has played more than 50 games for the Croatian national side.

And the deal - United's third major signing of the summer - could be completed as early as Tuesday, according to reports in the Italian press.

The Red Devils already have a stacked forward line, but Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on out-and-out winger Perisic as an alternative to the likes of Anthony Martial and Juan Mata.

Earlier in the month, the Europa League winners announced the acquisition of £75m Belgium forward Romelu Lukaku, who thrives on well-delivered crosses into the danger zone.

The club have also brought in 23-year-old Swedish centre-half Victor Lindelof, with their manager thought to be in the market for a defensive midfielder to complete his title-chasing squad.
