Current club: Inter Milan Sneijder has been linked to United for some time now, with the player widely expected to join the club last summer, and had that deal gone through, Sir Alex may not have had to concede defeat in the Premier League stakes to noisy neighbours City. It's also unlikely that Paul Scholes would have been such a necessary re-addition to the squad after his short-lived retirement had the Dutchman joined the Old Trafford club. After a relatively poor season for Inter Milan, Sneijder is said to be available for a lot less than the quoted £30m plus asking price of last year, and his manager Andrea Stramaccioni confirmed quite recently that he was for sale:
Sneijder is fundamental from a technical and tactical point of view, but I cant say that he is not for sale. That would be an abuse of my power. I would only ask the president to think carefully should an important offer arrive.
Even if he is not quite considered as untouchable as he was a couple of years ago, but he still has magic in his feet, as the video below shows. If Sir Alex chooses to firm up his long-standing interest in the former Ajax and Real Madrid player, he will get a two-footed, classy midfielder, with pace and strength who at the age of 28 is just about hitting his peak. Definitely the kind of high-profile signing Sir Alex could use as a statement of intent in his atttempt to prise the Premier League back from Man City. http://youtu.be/6_SyjCRzWUg
