Newcastle Defender Chancel Mbemba Angered By "Misinformation" Over His Age
Mbemba claims to have proven beyond doubt that he is 21.
Chancel Mbemba has admitted to being angered at the "misinformation" that has been published about his age since he arrived at Newcastle United this summer. The £8 million summer signing from Anderlecht is adamant that his registered birthdate of August 8th 1994 - which would make him 21 - is correct. Allegations have arisen that the centre-back has previously registered at least two other dates as his birthday, but the Democratic Republic of Congo international claims to have undertaken bone tests in order to accurately determine his age. Speaking to The Mirror, Mbemba said:
"I got bone tests done and, as me and my friends all know, the results prove what my age is. I just go out and play football, no misinformation. "A lot has been said about my birthdate and the different ages. I proved exactly what the truth is. "People in Africa know, me and my family, friends and anyone who knows Chancel Mbemba knows I was born on August 8th, 1994. That is all that matters. "Sometimes in Africa when people see someone doing well they try to bring them down or harm they career. I am not that kind of person, I have my friends and family and I dont have any harmful thoughts in my heart or in my head. "All that should matter to people is what I do on the pitch."Mbemba made his Barclays Premier League debut during the Magpies' 2-2 draw against Southampton last weekend, and he is expected to retain his place at the heart of Newcastle's defence alongside captain Fabricio Coloccini for Saturday's trip to Swansea City.
