Newcastle Midfielder Targeted By At Least SIX Clubs

Gouffran is attracting plenty of interest it seems.

Yoan Gouffran looks likely to leave Newcastle United before the transfer window shuts - and reports claim that at least six clubs are interested in signing the French midfielder. HITC Sport claim that Gouffran's former side Bordeaux are "one of a number of clubs in France" who are monitoring the 29-year-old's situation, while also suggesting that several Barclays Premier League and Championship sides are interested. West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion, Derby County, Hull City and Nottingham Forest are the five English clubs named in the article who are said to be keeping a close eye on Gouffran's situation on Tyneside.

Gouffran actually made his first appearance of the season for the Magpies during their 4-1 Capital One Cup Second-Round victory over Northampton Town at St James' Park on Tuesday night, but he was deployed in the unusual position of defensive-midfield for the full 90 minutes. Having arrived at Newcastle from Bordeaux in January 2013, the Frenchman started his Toon career promisingly, but he has faded badly in the past 12 months and has scored just 12 goals in 89 appearances in all for the Magpies. Throughout his entire club career - for Caen, Bordeaux and Newcastle - Gouffran has netted 85 times in 382 games. He is not believed to be part of Steve McClaren's first-team plans going forward.
