Newcastle Placed On Red Alert After Transfer Target Says "Who Knows What The Future Will Hold For Me?"

Will Mike Ashley act before others inevitably do...

Newcastle United's ears will have pricked yesterday afternoon when transfer target Charlie Austin told of how he will hold a meeting with Queens Park Rangers manager Chris Ramsey in the coming weeks about his future. Austin, who has one year left on his current deal at Loftus Road, is expected to be one of the first to leave the London club this summer after an unbelievable first season in the Premier League. The forward scored 18 goals and created 23 chances in 35 league appearances. And speaking to The Guardian, the newest England call-up told of how open he was regarding his future, Austin said:
€œI just want to concentrate on the next two weeks, enjoy the moment and what will be will be. €œWho knows what the future will hold for me? €œI feel like I€™ve worked hard enough this season for QPR to try to be a Premier League player but, at the moment, I€™ve still got a year left at QPR. €œSo the future€™s up to the club and my agent to sort out. I€™ll sit down with my family and my agent. I€™ll speak to Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand and tell them my thoughts, and they€™ll tell me theirs. €œAfter these two weeks, I€™ll sit down with the club but, for now, I just want to be fully focused on these next two weeks with England.€
If Newcastle are indeed interested, something that many sources have reported throughout the opening weeks of the transfer window, then they are going to have to stump up a reported £10 million for Austin and beat off competition from the likes of Southampton and Aston Villa. They better act quickly before any potential deal is taken out of their hands... For all the latest NUFC News, Views and Transfers make sure to follow whatculture.com/NUFC on Twitter and Facebook.
