Newcastle Take Swiss U-21 International On Trial
Magpies' striker search solved?
Newcastle United have taken Swiss under 21 international Albian Ajeti on trial with a view to a permanent deal next summer. The 18-year-old, who is Albanian by birth, has made 17 appearances for FC Basel's first team, scoring five goals. He's been markedly more prolific for the Swiss side's youth team however, notching 18 goals in 40 appearances. The striker is out-of-contract in the summer and is spending some time on Tyneside with the clubs development team in order seal a move to United. Ajeti recently hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons after breaking the news of former teammate Mohamed Elneny's move to Arsenal. The trialist posted a picture on his official Facebook page with the caption "I'm happy for you Mohamed El Neney success in Arsenal." Neither club has confirmed the move. The news that Ajeti's move is planned for the summer will come as somewhat of a relief to United fans, as he won't be the forward the club will be pinning their hopes of surviving relegation on. After Papiss Cisse was ruled out for 'up to three months,' the pressure has been heaped on Magpies' owner Mike Ashley to sign a proven Premier League forward. Alexandre Lacazette, Bas Dost, Loic Remy, and Charlie Austin have all been linked with a move to the North East, with Newcastle yet to make a signing so far this window.
