Newcastle must get serious in their bid to land Alexandre Lacazette after being told to fork out £10 million or risk losing out on the in-demand Lyon forward. Lacazette is viewed as the perfect replacement for Loic Remy after scoring 22 goals in France last season but the fear is that increased interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool could reduce our chances of persuading him to sign. And with the Chronicle reporting this morning that Lyon won't relinquish their grip on the 23-year-old for anything less than £10m it puts us at a huge disadvantage especially with Mike Ashley's unwillingness to pay the going rate for a talented France international. But what Ashley needs to understand is that this wouldn't be a case of paying through the nose for a player but more of an investment in the future of Newcastle United. Lacazette has the potential to alter the entire complexion of the squad and deliver a message that we aren't a Club content to just tread water in the top-flight. He would be a signal of our ambition to deliver success and silverware to St James' Park. Wishful thinking and the likelihood is that Lacazette won't even look twice at us given the teams rumoured to be courting his signature.
