Daily Mail. The 27-year old has earned comparisons with "a British style centre forward in the Alan Shearer mould" and is reportedly ready to make the move to St James' Park. The Magpies will be hoping to fend off interest from the likes of Everton, Fulham, Arsenal and Manchester United, who have all been linked with the forward in the past, while the France international is said to be well known to chief scout Graham Carr. His capture would bring some welcome relief to Tyneside following the immensely unpopular appointment of Joe Kinnear as Director of Football, who claims the club have not lodged a bid for another of their transfer targets, Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony. Newcastle were linked with the Ivorian, but he has since emerged as a target for Swansea City, with the Dutch club demanding £15 million and so the North East club have opted to pursuit other targets. Gignac featured for France during their doomed 2010 World Cup campaign and has also scored four goals in 13 internationals. He almost ended up in the Premier League in August 2011 with Fulham set to sign him on transfer deadline day, but Marseille pulled out at the last minute. He has struggled for form and has been marred by injury over the last few years but has just enjoyed a successful season in France, netting 18 goals in 37 games and Newcastle believe he can carry that form into the Premier League and give their attack some extra power and cutting edge next season.
