Newcastle Transfer News: Bafetimbi Gomis Deal DEAD

Newcastle's long summer pursuit of Bafetimbi Gomis looks to have finally come to an end according to Sky Tyne and Wear. The deal for the Lyon striker has been on and off all summer long but now the French international looks set to stay in France, for this season at least. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that despite offers from Newcastle, Swansea and clubs in Turkey none have been deemed acceptable by the player:

"We have to face facts, there isn't an offer that Bafe has accepted despite (interest from) the English and the Turks and Lyon need a player like him. "It was logical that Bafe would not reach the end of his contract, but if it is not possible (to extend) we have no more time to reinforce the team, so he will be our reinforcement."
After reports earlier in the summer that a fee was agreed the deal collapsed then over personal terms and agent fees. With him now set to stay in France till the end of his contract Newcastle will have to look elsewhere. However, there could be hope for a deal in January or next summer when the big striker's contract runs out. It is thought Joe Kinnear is working hard to bring one quality addition in. However this now looks more likely to be a winger than a striker and the focus is meant to be on players abroad rather than in the UK.
