Newcastles pursuit of a centre half to replace Fabricio Coloccini, could take them back to France with The Mirror linking the club with Lille centre half Aurelien Chedjou. Newcastle have apparently resigned themselves to losing skipper Fabricio Coloccini who wants to return to Argentina for personal reasons. This leaves them with a gap in the heart of their defence that needs filling. The latest player who is being linked is Lille's Aurelien Chedjou. Newcastle arent exactly strangers to buying players from France, or Lille in fact, from where they acquired both Mathieu Debuchy and Yohan Cabaye from. Chedjou is a Cameroonian international who has been at Lille since 2007. He will then of course know both Cabaye and Debuchy, a factor which could help draw the player to Tyneside. It does not look like it will be a smooth process for the North East club though with Spanish side Valencia being linked with a move for the player. The fee could also be a sticking point, Newcastle are reluctant to play big fees for players and the quoted £12 million may be a bit too much for Mike Ashley With The Mirror yesterday linking the club with a move for Celtic centre back Kelvin Wilson, it seems clear that the club are in the market for a new defender to add to their ranks and a more active summer than last year could be on the cards for the club. Who would Newcastle fans like brought in to fill the gap left by Coloccini? Would you welcome more French players? Is £12 million too pricey? Thoughts welcome below.
