Newcastle United are interested in activating Loic Remy's release clause if Queens Park Rangers are relegated from the Premier League this summer, according to the Metro. The Magpies came close to signing the French striker in the January transfer window, only to miss out when the player opted for a move to Loftus Road instead. But with his club toiling in the drop zone and seven points adrift from safety, it is looking increasingly likely that Remy will once more be on the move in the summer. Aston Villa are also thought to be interested, as are Tottenham, but manager Alan Pardew will be hoping his contingent of French players at St James' Park will be enough to sway the player into a move to Tyneside. QPR will reluctantly part with their star player, who has scored eight goals since his January move, if they do indeed lose their fight to remain in the Premier League. Harry Redknapp and owner Tony Fernandez would have to cut down on the club's astronomical wage bill which includes the eye-watering £100,000-per-week currently picked up by Christopher Samba. They signed Remy from Marseille for a club record £8 million as part of a desperate bid to stave off relegation, a plot which now appears to have failed.
