Newcastle Transfer News: Papiss Cisse Could Join Borussia Dortmund As Robert Lewandowski Replacement?

By Joseph Dempsey /

Express. Cisse, who is the Magpie's joint-highest goalscorer this season, joined the North East club from German side SC Freiburg last year for £9 million, and Dortmund want to bring him back to the Bundesliga in the summer. However, Jurgen Klopp's side will have to come up with at least £15 million if they want to take him away from the Premier League, considering the Senegalese national still has four years of his five-and-a-half-year deal left to run at St James' Park. His performances this season, in which he has netted 13 goals, have reportedly drawn interest from Dortmund, who now appear resigned to losing star striker Lewandowski in the summer. The Polish hitman only has one year left to run on his present deal and has accrued interest from the likes of United and Bayern Munich. However, the Red Devils may have an advantage in the scramble for his signature, considering Bayern recently bought Mario Gotze from their Bundesliga rivals. Veteran manager Sir Alex Ferguson remarked:

€œDortmund fans are not going to be happy over that and I don€™t think the club will sell Lewandowski to Bayern Munich now. €œI think they will let his contract run out or sell him somewhere else.€
Newcastle will be reluctant to sell Cisse to Dortmund if they come calling for a replacement for the Polish national, and have suffered from a shortage of strikers since the turn of the year following the sale of Demba Ba.
