Newcastle Transfers: £12 Million Fee Agreed For Jonjo Shelvey

But will the chef be joining him?

Jonjo Shelvey will travel to Newcastle on Tuesday for a medical after the Magpies agreed a £12 million deal with relegation rivals Swansea City, according to reports. The 23-year-old international midfielder had fallen down the pecking order in South Wales, but he looks set to get his career back on track and stake his claim to make England's Euro 2016 squad. The Magpies have already tied up a £5 million deal for French midfielder Henri Saivet as boss Steve McClaren looks to strengthen his squad in order to avoid the drop. Shelvey will operate in the centre of midfield, throwing Cheick Tiote's future into doubt, with some reports claiming that Shanghai Shenhua have tabled an £8 million bid for his services. But regardless of what happens with Tiote, Newcastle have almost certainly got their man, Shelvey. The former-Liverpool academy product has been capped 6-times for England under Roy Hodgson, while he's bagged one goal and two assists in 16 league appearances for Swansea this season so far. McClaren will be hoping for more recruits as the window rolls on, but Shelvey may need to make a new signing for himself after advertising for a live-in chef while at Swansea in a bid to control his fitness. Assuming Shelvey passes his medical on Tyneside, he could be available to make his debut against West Ham on Saturday at St. James' Park.
