It's a rumour that has a tendency to spring up on the grapevine every summer but one that could bear dangerous fruit this year. You'd need an extra pair of hands to count the number of times Tim Krul has been touted to end his eight-year Tyneside residency and move to the bright lights of London, specifically those glowing in the vicinity of White Hart Lane. There were flurry of reports across the weekend suggesting Tottenham are ready to intensify their long-standing interest in our Dutch international shot-stopper with current number one Hugo Lloris expected to pack his bags and leave North London to link up with the ludicrously rich Paris Saint Germain, who will be able to quench his thirst for Champions League football. And it could have devastating connotations for us with Krul understood to be desperate to improve his chances of usurping Ajax custodian Jasper Cillesen as Holland's first-choice keeper and may view a move to a club competing in Europe as the best way to climb the international pecking order. Spurs are said to be plotting a £10 million bid to test that will test our resolve to hang on to Krul and, in the event that he does depart, it would leave Rob Elliot as the only senior goalkeeper at St James' Park. So we'd obviously need to source a replacement cut from the same cloth as 26-year-old. The prospect of starting the season with the unconvincing Elliot in goal is a disconcerting one to say the least and, thus, we've suggested the FIVE keepers that can succeed Krul at Newcastle next season. * All valuations taken from transfermarkt.com
