Newcastle Transfers: Jesus Navas Could Join On A Free?
Rafael Benitez wants fellow Spaniard to join him on Tyneside.
Spanish winger Jesus Navas could remain in England with Newcastle following his release from Manchester City, reports The Mirror.
The 31-year-old has been plying his trade in the Premier League since 2013, when he moved from Sevilla for a reported £15 million, but saw his opportunities at the Etihad limited last season under Pep Guardiola.
He had originally been tipped for a return to Seville - where he spent the first decade of his career, winning the UEFA Cup twice - but Los Rojiblancos have reportedly balked at his wage demands.
And promoted Newcastle, managed by fellow Spainard Rafael Benitez, could steal a march on their rivals after becoming aware of the winger's availability.
The Magpies have had a low-key transfer window so far, as they prepare for their first season back in the Premier League after being relegated a year ago.
The Championship winners made whole-sale changes to their squad last season, but Benitez apparently believes more experience is needed if his side are to compete in the top flight.
Navas, a speedy wide-man with 35 Spain caps to his name, could be exactly the sort of acquisition the former Liverpool boss has been looking for.
