Newcastle United Interested in Zambia Striker Emmanuel Mayuka

Player's agent claims Newcastle are one of the clubs to have shown major interest in the 21-year-old BSC Young Boys striker.

€œThere has been interest shown from Arsenal, Newcastle and Fulham. Emmanuel wants to play in the Premier League, which he feels is the best in the world, but there is more concrete interest from other European clubs.€ Now if the agent is being honest in his claims, we have to believe that Newcastle's interest in the player came before they made the mega signing of Papiss Demba Cisse for £9 million in January. Newcastle were in the market for a strike partner for Demba Ba and they found one, and presumably Mayuka was just one of the players they looked at. We can't imagine at this point Newcastle are in the market for another big money signing, not least another African striker who will leave in January to play for his country in the tournament that is again held in 2013. Though Newcastle probably will bring in another striker int he summer with Peter Lovenkrands and Nile Ranger almost certainly leaving the club in the summer and the future of Leon Best not certain after a troubled season and Shola Ameobi having little more to look forward too than being a bench warmer. We have heard that Mike Ashley has instructed Chief Scout Graham Carr to look for a young striker in the summer to bring some fresh legs in that area and perhaps Mayuka is that option. Mayuka joined BSC Young Boys in 2010 from Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv and it is said he favours a move to the Premier League, which is obvious given how much money he could make here at a top club. Mayuka has scored 14 goals in 27 games for BSC Young Boys, chipping in with 4 assists. For Zambia he has scored 10 in 34 games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxvnSxnlr9o
