Newcastle United Transfer News: Henri Bedimo To Announce Future
Montpellier and Cameroon star Henri Bedimo will announce next week which Premier League club he will join in the summer with reports that Liverpool and Newcastle United are showing interest in the defender.
Im going to play in England next season. Ill announce where next week.Newcastle's Chief Scout Graham Carr has scoured France for new recruits with manager Alan Pardew signalling that a new left-back is a priority after not finding a natural replacement for Jose Enrique last summer. Ironically their former Spanish full-back signed for Liverpool and was one of the more successful new recruits under former boss Kenny Dalglish but was often dropped from the bigger games towards the end of last season. With Fabio Aurelio released, new boss Brendan Rodgers is hoping to add Bedimo for competition for that left-back slot. United have closely watched Montpellier captain and centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwaw and also French striker Olivier Giroud (who looks certain to join Arsenal in a £12 million deal this summer) but is their teammate Bedimo who has reportedly caught the eye. The left-back turned 28 earlier this month and is a few years older than the players Pardew has recently gone for but with moves for Erik Pieters and other targets stalling, he may be the one they take a gamble on, though Newcastle would likely offer less than £5 million. Bedimo is contracted to Montpellier until 2015 and only signed a four year-deal last summer when he moved from Lens. He has played almost 200 times in the French league since making his debut ten years ago and has racked up 15 caps for Cameroon.
