In a move that would seem to be a great fit for all parties involved, it looks as if Andy Carroll may finally be returning to Newcastle United.

The Newcastle Guardian’s Lee Ryder is reporting that Carroll is currently in discussions with Newcastle officials about finalising a move.

Fitness checks are said to be underway on the injury-plagued striker, and he himself is keen to return to his hometown club.

For Newcastle, re-signing Andy Carroll would certainly be a feel-good signing for the club – and under the Mike Ashley era, any sort of feel-good moment would be welcomed by the Toon faithful.

After his West Ham contract was allowed to expire at the end of last season, Carroll is available on a free transfer.

In his first spell at St. James’ Park, the England international bagged 33 goals in 90 goals for the Geordies before departing to Liverpool for £35 million in January 2011.

Within the last hour, Newcastle have completed the £5 million signing of Amiens right-back Emil Krafth – the Swedish international joining fellow new signings Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin and Jetro Willems in joining The Magpies this summer.

Whether Andy Carroll gets added to these new additions later today remains to be seen, but Carroll’s free transfer status means that any deal could still be completed after today’s 5pm transfer deadline.
