Jonas Gutierrez secured his future with Newcastle United this week, keeping him at the North East club to 2015. The 28 year old has agreed improved terms on a four year deal and hopefully as a Newcastle fan, it's a sign that the club are looking to get players to sign extensions early rather than having a situation where top players like Enrique could force through his move to Liverpool when he only had one year on his deal. Fabricio Coloccini's deal runs out in 2013, so the club should be looking to secure the club captain's future before January and before other clubs start turning his head as he moves closer to the 1 year left danger period. Gutierrez originally signed a five year deal, joining United from Real Mallorca in 2008 and has played 110 times in the Premier League and Championship, scoring 7 goals, staying mostly injury free and fully fit for selection in nearly every game over his four year term. Though with the emergence of French U21 international Sylvain Marveaux and full French international Hatem Ben Arfa looking to be slotted in somewhere, Gutierrez's recent ineffective performances might see his place come under threat in the coming weeks.
