Pep Guardiola Officially Becomes Bayern Munich Manager
TeamTalk. The Spaniard has been on a sabbatical from football since last summer when he announced he would be leaving his post at the Nou Camp after his contract expired. Since then he has been linked with a number of club's including Premier League Champions Manchester City and big-spending French outfit Paris Saint-Germain. However, Bayern confirmed they had landed their man, and chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said:
"Pep Guardiola is one of the most successful coaches in the world and we are sure that he can make not just Bayern, but all of German football shine."Current Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes will stay in his job until July, at which point the 41-year old will take over on a contract that will run until the summer of 2016. Guardiola went on to become the most successful manager in Barcelona's history after taking over from Frank Rijkaard in 2008, winning fourteen trophies in four years including three consecutive La Liga titles, two Champions League's and two Copa del Ray's. He played for Barcelona during his playing career as a defensive midfielder, also, making 263 appearances between 1990 and 2001 after emerging from the Barcelona youth ranks.
