Premier League Review: 5 Talking Points From Manchester City and Chelsea

3. Jack Rodwell Was A Pointless Purchase

The term more money than sense can be attributed to many a Manchester City purchase; Roque Santa Cruz, Emmanuel Adebayor, Edin Dzeko; however with Jack Rodwell Manchester City have not only shown they still possess this knack but have also put a stamp out there for most pointless signing of the season award. It seems that Mancini, in all his wisdom, just has a spending itch that is a necessity to be scratched. He€™s spent the summer complaining over the fact they haven€™t spent money on any signings whilst every sensible person has pointed out that Manchester City need a shrunken wage budget before they improve their squad. Jack Rodwell is a tough tackling centre midfielder with a tendency for getting injured who was signed for £15 million to play in a team which already has Gareth Barry, James Milner and Nigel De Jong to fill that role. All of whom are far less injury prone, far more experienced and complete City€™s needs. Jack Rodwell is a needless expense, another inflation to a wage bill more expensive than the Spice Girls€™ botox budget.
