Revealed: Why Newcastle United Did Not Sign Charlie Austin

NUFC weren't prepared to pay Queens Park Rangers' asking price due to injury concerns.

Newcastle United were unwilling to pay anywhere close to Queens Park Rangers' £15 million valuation of Charlie Austin due to his concerning injury record, according to the Northern Echo.

The striker had been on the Magpies' radar throughout the whole summer but despite keen interest they chose not to gamble on the player.

Austin's injury record was the main problem. The 26-year-old suffered a shoulder injury during the 2013/14 season and there are reportedly still concerns over the player's recovery.

Despite Aleksandar Mitrovic having already arrived from Anderlecht, the club have remained hopeful of bringing in another striker and have chased Austin for the last two months but decided that he wasn't worth paying big money for. It will be interesting to see if the Magpies continue their pursuit of the striker in January where he will be free to start negotiations with what would be expected to be a large number of clubs.
