Fernando Torres scored twice on his 100th start for Chelsea as the Blues ran away worthy winners in Germany. The visitors took the lead through Torres in the 5th minute. The Spanish international headed home at the far post from an Ivanovic corner. Chelsea had Petr Cech to thank for the side staying ahead at half-time. The long-serving 'keeper made a number of good saves in the first-half to keep Schalke at bay. Schalke may feel they should have levelled the game in the second-half when defender Benedikt Howedes had a glorious chance to head home from inside the area, but the centre-back missed the target and Chelsea survived. The hosts were then made to rue the missed opportunity after Fernando Torres doubled Chelsea's lead with 20 minutes to play. After good work from playmaker Eden Hazard, the Belgian set up Torres for a simple finish to put the game beyond doubt. Hazard then added to Schalke's woes by adding a late third in the dying minutes to complete a good night for the Europa League holders. In a deserved victory for the Premier League side, the win sees Chelsea go top of Group E - level on points with Schalke.
