Spurs Poll: Who Should Be First Choice Left Back?
Will Ben Davies have to fight his way past Danny Rose?
Gylfi Sigurdsson and £3.5 million go the other way - it was generally considered to be the answer to the club's long-standing left back prayers. It's a position the club have struggled to satisfactorily fill for years and last season epitomised this fact more than ever. Benoit Assou-Ekotto was sent out on loan to Queens Park Rangers and he certainly won't be going back to White Hart Lane after his World Cup head-butting exploits. Danny Rose flattered to deceive for much of the season and, when he was injured, Kyle Naughton and Jan Vertonghen were forced to deputise in a position that isn't favoured by either of them. Davies is a young Welsh international who has performed excellently in the Premier League for Swansea and he could potentially be Spurs' first choice left back for years. However, pre-season has seen a defiant and resurgent Danny Rose throw a spanner in to the works. After signing a five year contract - clearly indicating his intention to get game time at White Hart Lane - he has performed very well when he has played and many people are now expecting him to start against West Ham United next weekend. Whether or not that actually happens is open to debate, but the left back situation is not quite as cut and dry as it appeared to be when Davies joined Spurs. So, who do you think will start in the Premier League opener? Will it be Danny Rose? Will it be Ben Davies? Vote in the poll below and feel free to elaborate in the comments section at the bottom.
