Fulham's Dimitar Berbatov has snubbed a return to former club Tottenham Hostpur in favour of a loan move to French big spenders Monaco. The 33-year-old who was first introduced to Premier League fans through his exploits at White Hart Lane spurned the chance to return to help Spurs' Champions League campaign in order to aid the Principality's tilt at the French Ligue 1 and provide an emergency back-up for Falcao, who is out until the end of the season. With many clubs interested in the Bulgarian's signature alongside Spurs, Arsenal were rumoured to be in the running Berbatov's status as a player at Craven Cottage was under threat, and with Fulham's £12 million signing of Greek forward Kostas Mitrioglu speculation only intensified. But despite interest from Tim Sherwood and the Spurs backroom staff, the former Manchester United man chose to head for pastures new until the end of the season, leaving the North London side short on strikers after Jermain Defoe's move to MLS side Toronto FC earlier this month. Berbatov whose Fulham contract expires at the end of the season has scored five goals in 19 appearances this season for the West Londoners, and leaves his club in 19th place, only a point above bottom-of-the-table Cardiff and two points from safety.
