Spurs Transfer News: Federico Fazio Signs
The Argentinian defender joins from Sevilla.
Twitter account has revealed that the White Hart Lane outfit have signed Sevilla captain Federico Fazio. After Spurs club captain and fellow central defender Michael Dawson joined Hull City yesterday, Fazio has come in as his direct replacement and will be seen as an upgrade in quality from the outgoing former Nottingham Forest man Fazio has three caps for Argentina and won the Europa League with Sevilla last season, which made him a wanted man after some very solid performances. The club had just made him captain after the departure of Ivan Rakiti to Barcelona. He had this to say about his move to England:
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club's official Im really happy to be here at this club, this great club with very good players. Im really happy to be here. I come to Tottenham because I think its a very good team, a very good club, very good fans. I know Spurs is a historic club in this country and league. This is a great club and Im very happy to be here.At 6' 5" tall, Fazio becomes the second tallest defender in the Premier League, behind Arsenal's Per Mertesacker, and he will bring some much-needed solidity and consistency to a Spurs defence that leaked far too many goals last season. In last season's La Liga campaign, Fazio made more interceptions than any other player in the division and he looks to be a shrewd acquisition for Spurs, who paid the £8 million release clause in his contract to land him. He was seen being put through his paces at White Hart Lane in subsequent tweets about his signing. Is Fazio a good signing for Spurs? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
