Spurs Transfer News: Gareth Bale Future To Be Decided In 48 Hours?

By Joseph Dempsey /

Daily Mail. Bale has been involved in one of this summer's more protracted transfer sagas but could have his future sorted this week, if reports are accurate. Spurs' owner Joe Lewis is taking charge of talks over the potential sale of the player to Real Madrid - and he will not settle for anything less than £100 million for the Wales international. The Bahamas-based billionaire is taking up a more active involvement in the Bale situation and is set to meet Real's president Florentino Perez in Miami or Phoenix, along with the Lilywhite's chairman Daniel Levy. An insider is quoted as saying:

"It isn€™t just Daniel Levy involved now. It is Joe Lewis who is going to be facing Perez at the negotiating table. He wants to meet Perez and resolve the Bale situation. "The main outstanding issue is one of cash, rather than the question of which player, if any, comes to White Hart Lane from the Bernabeu. The sides are still some way apart."
Lewis is aware of the fact Perez is under intense pressure to land Bale for Madrid this summer, while it has also emerged the Spanish giants only want to pay £20 million up front, with the rest of the world-record fee spread out in instalments. Real are conscious of falling foul to financial fair play rules. But if the Spaniards want five years to make the payment for the double PFA Player of the Year, Tottenham could take advantage and push the total fee up to an eye-watering £120 million.
