Spurs Transfer News: Gareth Bale Latest Update

By Joseph Dempsey /

Metro. Madrid have already put an £85 million bid on the table for the 24-year-old, but Spurs are holding out for a fee in the region of £100 million. The Wales international has made it clear to Tottenham that he wants to leave and one of this summer's most protracted transfer sagas appears to be inching ever closer to completion. According to reports in Spanish media, Real president Florentino Perez telephoned Spurs chairman Daniel Levy this morning in an effort to advance negotiations for the double PFA Player of the Year. Levy reaffirmed that the Lilywhites wanted at least £105 million for Bale, but that the North London club would show some flexibility on the matter if striker Alvaro Morata was included as part of the deal. Madrid have so far been reluctant to include any of their players as makeweights but wing-back Fabio Coentrao and attacker Angel Di Maria have both previously been mooted as stars the Spaniards would be willing to use as part-exchange. Last season's La Liga runners-up are considering including Morata as part of the deal but new boss Carlo Ancelotii is keen on keeping the talented 20-year-old, a product of Los Blanco's youth academy. During the talks, Spurs are believed to have ruled out Real's proposal that they pay Bale's fee in a series of installments, and Madrid are now preparing a fresh bid. Real hope to have completed the signing of Bale before the start of the Premier League season next weekend.
