Villareal defender reportedly in talks over White Hart Lane switch.

Reports are emerging from Spanish source Super Deporte that the reported Spurs target Mateo Musacchio has been pulled from training with his current club Villarreal ahead of his potential move to English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. He is said to be limiting his activity to gym sessions away from his team-mates in order to avoid risking injury, which would obviously cause a move to fall through. The 23 year old Argentine central defender has been earmarked by his fellow countryman and Spurs' new boss Mauricio Pochettino as being the man to partner Belgium international Jan Vertongen in central defence, as the former Southampton manager looks to overhaul the Lilywhites' back line. Younes Kaboul and Michael Dawson are believed to have been deemed surplus to requirements in Pochettino's Spurs squad (with the former reportedly in talks with Lazio over a move to Italy) and, having already acquired young Englishman Eric Dier from Portuguese side Sporting, the Tottenham centre back roster looks set to feature Vertonghen, Musacchio, Dier and Romanian Vlad Chiriches in what looks to be a youthful, progressive, adaptable and multi-faceted pool of talent in defence. If Spurs were to field Vertonghen and Musacchio as their first choice central defensive partnership, they would epitomise an attacking philosophy that would see the team looking to move forward at every opportunity, as both players are comfortable with running forward and having the ball at their feet. Musacchio won't come cheap and Spurs' reported valuation of ‚15 million looks to be a mile off what Villareal want for the player, but with Daniel Levy negotiating anything could happen and it is more than likely that Musacchio will be a Spurs player sooner rather than later. Do you think Mateo Muasacchio would be a good signing for Spurs? Is a potential Vertonghen/Musacchio central defensive pairing a strong one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
