Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Lodge £20 Million Roberto Soldado Bid
Daily Star. Spurs saw their opening offer of £17 million knocked back by the La Liga club, who reportedly will not discuss a deal until the 28-year-old's £30 million release clause is met. The Spanish club have offered Solado a big pay rise in an effort to convince him to stay at the Mestalla, yet he could double his wages by joining Andre Villas-Boas' Lilywhites. Valencia president Amadeo Salvo confirmed the new Tottenham bid. But he added:
The English team knows the situation. Valencia needs money. But we dont have to sell our best player.Spurs still hope a deal with the financially-stricken Spaniards can be reached, particularly as they have had to seek a new sponsor just to help them fund the new terms they have offered Soldado. The player is set to meet club officials on Monday to thrash out his future. Tottenham have already spent £17 million on Brazilian midfielder Paulinho this summer but want to buy two new strikers as well, with Aston Villa's contract rebel Christian Benteke also on their radar. Soldado scored 24 goals in 35 La Liga appearances last season and finished the campaign as the division's fifth-highest goalscorer.
