Spurs Transfers: Christian Benteke Deal Depends On Adebayor Sale

By K.J. Stewart /

ClubCall.com, the potential transfer of Aston Villa's Belgian international striker Christian Benteke to Tottenham Hotspur rests on Emmanuel Adebayor leaving White Hart Lane first. Turkish club Besiktas are reportedly interested in the Togolese striker, but Adebayor has stated that he won't be forced out of Spurs unless his wage demands are met. The player, who was bought from Manchester City last year for £5.5m following a successful loan spell, has not performed as well for Spurs since his permanent switch and the club are keen to get his £100,000 a week salary off their wage bill to free up funds. A £6 million fee is said to have been agreed between Spurs and Besiktas, but Adebayor's personal demands are proving to be a stumbling block. If and when Adebayor moves on, Spurs will make their first official approach for Christian Benteke with a bid of £20m. Aston Villa are said to be demanding £25 million however, but Spurs will hope to bring that price down. Benteke had a fantastic debut season in the English Premier League, scoring an impressive 19 goals in 37 league appearances and 23 goals in all competitions. He has played 14 times for the Belgian international side, scoring 6 goals, and would add to Spurs' growing Belgian contingent which already includes Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele, while the club are also said to be interested in compatriot Nacer Chadli of FC Twente.
