Stoke vs Sunderland - 5 Reasons Why Wes Brown Is Key To Black Cats

By Joseph Speckman /

On January 21st 2012, Sunderland defeated Premier League surprise package Swansea City 2-0 at The Stadium Of Light thanks to spectacular goals from Stephane Sessegnon and Craig Gardner. Simon Mignolet of course kept a clean sheet, much thanks to the rock in defence in the form of former England defender Wes Brown. Unfortunately, this was the last time Brown was to kick a ball in a full competitive match for 22 months, which is a whopping spell on the sidelines for anyone, yet alone a top flight professional footballer. Brown played and scored in a pre season tournament match against Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong in July of this year, but unfortunately picked up a different injury on the back of the 3-1 win. Brown made his full comeback in the Capital One Cup win against Southampton a fortnight ago and picked up the man of the match award. We have put together five reasons why Wes Brown will be the key man for Sunderland this season in their quest for survival.
