Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Liam Bridcutt is set to undergo a medical with Sunderland after the two clubs agreed a £3 million deal, according to the BBC. Bridcutt was signed by Gus Poyet in 2010 during his days as manager of the The Seagulls and will become his third permanent signing as Black Cats boss this month. Poyet has already signed keeper scar Ustari and forward Ignacio Scocco from UD Almería and Sport Club Internacional, respectively. Bridcutt handed in a transfer request at Brighton in early January, which was rejected, and he has not played for the Championship club since the draw with Bournemouth on New Year's Day. The 24-year-old began his career with Chelsea in 2007 as a youth team player but didn't feature for the senior side and was loaned out to Yeovil Town, Watford and Stockport County. He then signed for Brighton permanently in 2010 and made 151 appearances in a three-and-a-half year spell on the south coast, scoring two goals. After joining Albion, he helped them win the League One title in 2011 and reach the Championship play-offs last season. Sunderland climbed out of the Premier League relegation zone with a 1-0 win against Stoke City on Wednesday night.
