Sunderland Transfer News: West Brom Make £6m Sessegnon Bid

By Simon Gallagher /

Bottom of the table West Brom are currently being touted as the next destination for out-of-favour Sunderland midfielder Stephane Sessegnon, who caused controversy by being arrested for drunk driving as his team were playing MK Dons in the League Cup last week. According to MailSport the Baggies have made a £6million offer for the Benin national forward, who was one of the shining lights of last season, but whose future at the Stadium Of Light has been unclear since Paolo Di Canio took over at the helm at the end of the season. Though they haven't yet won this season, Sunderland have a new look squad after Di Canio sanctioned a massive 12 incoming signings, and the Mail say Sessegnon is now surplus to requirements. West Brom have also had a tough start to the season - they have failed to score in their three games so far, and yesterday's 2-0 home defeat to Swansea City showed that they are light on options up front, even with the return of Nicolas Anelka. Sessegnon has made two appearances already this season for the Black Cats, but didn't feature in Saturday's disappointing loss to Crystal Palace in London, and though he is a prodigious talent, it is strongly believed, by the Mail at least, that Di Canio would prefer to move him on. Able to play in midfield as well as upfront, Sessegnon could boost West Brom's attacking options significantly, and at £6 million, wouldn't represent too much of a major outlay for an experienced Premier League player. Do you think Di Canio is right to show Sessegnon the door? Are West Brom the best option for him? Sound off in the comments below.
