It's fair to say that Dick Advocaat's wife won't have seen too much of him over the years. Since 1980, the Dutchman has taken the helm of clubs as diverse as PSV, Rangers, Zenit, and the South Korean national team - without more than a few months' rest in between roles. Having guided Sunderland to safety at the end of last season, the passionate atmosphere of the club had clearly gotten under Advocaat's skin despite the shortness of his reign. Despite being moved to tears at the final whistle of the Black Cats' survival-clinching draw with Arsenal, he decided to finally retire from management - citing his wife's potential horror as a key reason against prolonging his career further! His abrupt u-turn earlier this week was therefore a huge shock, and Sunderland fans have been quick to show their gratitude at Mrs Advocaat's change of heart. A gofundme.com page was quickly set up, encouraging supporters to donate to "Mrs Advocaat's Flower Fund" - a cause which has broken the £2,000 barrier in less than two days. While this would be comfortably enough to buy bouquets for the gaffer's extended family and friends, there is talk instead of capping the flower budget at £150, with the considerable remaining funds divided between the Foundation of Light and a charity of Mrs Advocaat's chosing.
