Top Sunderland target Jeremain Lens has confirmed his departure from his current club on social media. The Dynamo Kyiv star today posted a picture to his Instagram and Twitter accounts, showing him stood in front of a waiting airplane, with the accompanying caption 'Ready for takeoff'. The image must surely be an allusion to reports that the Dutch international has been granted a medical with the Black Cats, following an agreed transfer fee of around £9,000,000. Lens spoke out earlier this week, stating that part of his desire to leave stemmed from the ongoing political unrest in Ukraine, and a need to keep himself and his family safe. The 27 year old has previously played under Dick Advocaat at PSV Eindhoven and first club AZ Alkmaar, a connection which surely played a huge role in the Black Cats landing such a highly-regarded target. He is expected to be deployed on the left hand side of Advocaat's front three, and will provide a much-needed injection of pace into the squad. However, Sunderland fans would be wise not to consider his arrival a sure thing, especially given the news that fellow transfer target Nicolas Lombaerts failed his medical earlier this week. Here's hoping lightning doesn't strike twice on Wearside.
