The Most Expensive England XI Of All Time
4. CM: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - £34.2 Million
Much like Shaw, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain broke into the Southampton first team as a teenager and has since moved onto a top six club. And much like Shaw his progress has stalled thanks to serious injuries.
After being used as a utility man at Arsenal, the Ox traded London for Liverpool in 2017, as he wanted to focus on playing in central midfield. And after a few months of bedding in, he had become an integral part of Jurgen Klopp's system and looked destined to be a starter at the 2018 World Cup.
But a knee injury ruled him out for a year and he looked in danger of being left behind by both the Reds and the Three Lions.
Fortunately, he has recovered well and when fully fit has the capabilities of one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world. His great creativity, energy and ability to shoot from distance, makes him a key asset for any team and he fully deserves to win the Premier League this year, as he did the Champions League last year.
Now entering the prime of his career, let's hope the Ox can fulfill his potential and establish himself among the midfield elite.
