the Sun, Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has told rebel Luka Modric that he will only leave White Hart Lane once a club coughs up £40 million. The 26-year-old midfielder has been rumoured to be leaving Tottenham for Real Madrid, Manchester United or Manchester City, but despite interest from all clubs none have managed to meet the demands of Spurs. Losing Luka Modric for £40 million would be a relief for Andre Villas-Boas who is keen to expand the squad and the money would allow him to do so. Luka Modric has been in Villas-Boas€™ bad books all summer and the sulking Croatian has been told he will only leave for the right price and nothing less. New manager Villas-Boas is facing problems at the club already with Jermain Defoe being the only out right striker after the club failed to sign Emmanuel Adebayor for Manchester City on a permanent basis. Villas-Boas has said:

€œHe is training alone. We decided to do that until his mental state is ready to return to the team. It is important that, in the coming days, he understands he must return to the first team. We respect the player€™s ambition, but he must also respect the club.€
After both Manchester clubs have turned their attention to Robin van Persie, Modric€™s only options look to be Real Madrid or Paris St Germain. Modric will have to hope a club bids £40 million for him soon or he may have to face sitting out for the majority of the first half of the season until the window opens again in January.
