Tottenham vs Newcastle: Gouffran Taken For Scan, Possible Broken Leg

By Simon Gallagher /

Injured French attacker Yoan Gouffran has been taken to hospital for a scan on his leg, after a follow-through by Tottenham's Kyle Walker left the player with a cut on his shin and in obvious agony. The kick on Gouffran left the player writhing in agony, much to the amusement of Sky Sports' pundit Niall Quinn, the former Sunderland manager, player and director, who was offering his impartial opinions for the channel at the time. He was subsequently taken off on a stretcher, despite accusations from Quinn that there was very little wrong, while being administered oxygen, and he has now been taken to a local hospital for a scan on the injury. Newcastle will hope that the injury is less serious than that which came at the start of compatriot Hatem Ben Arfa's Newcastle career, and saw him sidelined for almost a year, but the pain on Gouffran's face looked a poor indication of the problem. Hopefully, the player, signed from Bordeaux in the transfer window will be fine, and the injury will just turn out to be bad bruising, but for now there is no confirmation. The injury changed the shape of Newcastle, who had been given a torrid time by Tottenham all afternoon, with little protection from referee Phil Dowd, though in honesty this challenge by Walker looked unintentional.
