Whether the title shot handed to Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 was earned or not it cannot be argued that he came closer in that first round to defeating the champion than any fighter since Jones won the belt. A return to Middleweight where Vitor remains super competitive is in order but what value is there in matching him with other contenders whose momentum he could halt? Having now fought, and lost to, both Anderson Silva and Jon Jones in recent memory would fans really buy into a third shot at modern day UFC Gold? The importance of how relevant a fight is to the rankings and future of a division is wildly overrated by fans and journalists alike. Pitting Vitor against Wanderlei would do nothing to get either fighter closer to a title shot but it would likely produce a great fight between two Brazilian berserker styled veterans that probably shouldnt be getting another shot any time soon anyway.
