West Ham Transfer News: Hammers Make Asamoah Gyan Approach?

By Joseph Dempsey /

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has made an approach to sign former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan on loan from from United Arab Emirates side Al Ain, according to Team Talk. Gyan made 34 Premier League appearances for Sunderland, but was loaned to Al Ain in 2011 and eventually sold a year later, making his stay in the UAE permanent. However, the 28-year-old could be about to make his return to England's top-flight just a year-and-a-half after signing a five-year-contract with Al-Za'eem. The Ghanaian has been in the goals since his transfer abroad, scoring 22 in 18 UAE Pro League appearances in his debut season, while he has also netted 11 in nine this term, too. And, while West Ham have made no comment on claims they want to sign the striker, sources close to the player report than an approach for Gyan to sign on a six-month loan deal has been made. Gyan has made 76 appearances for his native Ghana and along with the Black Cats, also had spells in Europe with Italian sides Udinese and Modena, as well as French outfit Rennes. West Ham are currently a point and a place above the relegation zone and are without a league win all month.
