World Cup 2014: 5 Reasons Why England Don't Have A Chance Of Winning

By Joseph Dempsey /

Earlier today, Football Association chairman Greg Dyke played down England's chances of World Cup glory at next summer's tournament in Brazil and said he does not expect the Three Lions to win. Dyke believes Roy Hodgson's side can still qualify for the tournament, and that glory may be forthcoming when the competition comes to Qatar in 2022, but for the time being, it is unrealistic to expect anything more until then. These sentiments were echoed earlier this year by Michael Owen, who said back in July that England are not in a good enough position to be successful in 12 months. Owen, who is England's tenth most-capped player, believes there is too much pressure on former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney as the whole nation prepares to hold its collective breath in anticipation next year. With qualification for the 2014 World Cup by no means assured, we find ourselves agreeing with these opinions. Tomorrow, England take on Moldova in a crunch, must-win encounter at Wembley Stadium, and perhaps we will get a better sense as to whether winning the group is a realistically attainable target by full time. Until then, here, we run through five reasons why England Don't Have A Chance at the 2014 World Cup. Click "Next" to begin.
