5. A History Of Failure
England, and their manager Roy Hodgson, have a history of failure at international level. The well-travelled Hodgson, who has managed the likes of Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and Finland before taking the Three Lions job, had a pretty poor record at each of those aforementioned sides. While at Switzerland, between 1992-95, his win percentage was 51.22%, and it gets worse. At UAE, Hodgson only lasted two years before being sacked with a win percentage of 23.53%. Similar disappointment awaited him at Finland, where his tenure was even more short-lived - 23 months - with a win percentage of 39%. Then of course there was the whole debacle as Liverpool manager, where he completely failed to handle big-name players and left the club "by mutual consent" after just six months. England too have a disappointing history at major tournaments. The Three Lions haven't gotten past the quarter final stage at any of the last five major competitions, reaching the last eight at Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup, the last 16 of the 2010 World Cup, before another quarter final appearance at Euro 2012. Oh, and let's not forget the fact we didn't even QUALIFY for Euro 2008.
