10 Star Trek Characters Who Died Off-Screen
For some, death was just the start but these characters never got to finish their story onscreen.
Star Trek has a propensity to kill off characters to then bring them back to life, be it on-screen or in Beta canon - looking at you Trip Tucker.
There has been several occasions when the deaths of characters have taken place off-screen, leaving fans questioning whether or not they've gone to meet the Great Bird of the Galaxy. However, one must always remember - no body, no death. All we need to do is look to Lower Decks' resurrection of Shax, or Picard's shock return by Ro Laren.
This does not include those characters who have been confirmed dead on-screen, only to 'somehow return' moments later.
We have assembled ten characters who may never get their swansong proper. The lack of ceremony at their demise leads to all sorts of possibilities and who knows, any one of those on this list could soon be unexpectedly stepping out of a shower to make an unexpected (but very welcome) return to the franchise.
10. Zhaban
The Morecambe to Orla Brady's Wise, Zhaban was a key member of Jean-Luc Picard's household in the first season of Picard, so much so that the prequel graphic novel to the series covered the pair's backstory.
Both Zhaban and Laris were former Tal'Shiar operatives involved with the events of the Romulan resettlement. They would eventually settle in La Barre with Picard, and the married pair managed his household while also providing next level security on the estate.
But season two dropped a huge bomb in the opening episode: Zhaban had died off screen some 18 months prior to The Star Gazer. This would be one of only a few mentions of the character in the second season, with most of those being in the opening episode. Though this left Laris open to a more personal relationship with Picard, it was a sudden, anti-climactic departure for an important character.
While the plan was to allow Picard to be open to new romantic possibilities, it wrote out one of the new and interesting characters created specifically for Picard and which related directly to events before the first season.
