10 Abandoned Game Of Thrones Plot Threads We Really Miss

10. The Iron Islands

Remember the Greyjoys, especially Theon’s sister Yara? In the third season finale, Yara gave a pretty exciting speech about how she was going to rescue her brother from the Boltons and bring him home. Hell yes! Then in Season 4, after six episodes, Yara finally reaches him, only for him to have been so beaten down by Ramsay that he denies he’s Theon Greyjoy.

Yara leaves, claiming her brother is dead, and then we never hear from her again.

Where is she? Where are the rest of the Greyjoys? The Iron Islands are a pretty significant part of Westeros, but in Season 5, they’ve been completely absent.

It’s also important to note that in Season 3, Melisandre cast a spell calling for the death of three kings: Robb Stark, Joffrey Baratheon and Balon Greyjoy. We all know what happened to the first two, but is Balon still alive? Is that part of the spell just taking longer?

In the fourth book, A Feast For Crows, there is actually a pretty significant Iron Islands storyline, but that has been entirely cut from this season. That might make sense in terms of efficiency, but it certainly does feel a little odd to have that entire part of Westeros completely abandoned for a season and a half.
